Proverbs 8: 22-36
This passage from Proverbs is well known for a number of reasons. One aspect of the passage that I find interesting is that it claims that God created a wisdom creature and that this being was made prior to any other of God’s creations. Perhaps significantly, wisdom appears to be a woman or feminine figure. This may support the idea that God transcends human gender roles. This could provide some balance to other parts of the Bible that characterize God as exhibiting masculine characteristics when God is referenced as a Father, Judge, King or Warrior. If this is so, it would appear that God equally values both the human male and female genders. This is something that all of humanity can truly celebrate!
