John 2:1-12

Today's reading is a story that is familiar to many of us.  Jesus and his disciples and his mother, Mary, are at a wedding in Cana of Galilee when an embarrassing situation arises.  The wine runs out.  The account in John's gospel tells us that Mary said to Jesus, "They have no wine."  It seems there was more to this encounter than the mere exchange of information.  Jesus seems to hear a request for he responds by saying, "Woman, what concern is that to you and to me?  My hour has not yet come."

Is it possible that Mary knew the time for Jesus to begin his public ministry had come?  That is was time to act?  And that her observation, "they have no wine" was a needed catalyst?

Jesus does "the first of his signs" there in Cana of Galilee and "revealed his glory" by turning water into excellent quality wine.

How will you listen this week to the observations and possible requests from others?  And pray for guidance?  And respond?
